Countable Labs has raised $26 million in funding to accelerate the development of its next-generation PCR technology, which the company claims is significantly more sensitive than standard methods. The startup asserts that its Countable PCR platform is "at least 10 times" more sensitive than conventional PCR, a claim that could have major implications for diagnostics, pathogen detection, and molecular biology.
The funding round was led by a group of investors focused on deep tech and life sciences. The company plans to use the capital to scale its manufacturing capabilities, expand its research team, and bring the technology to market for both clinical and industrial applications. Countable Labs says its approach improves the detection of low-abundance nucleic acids, which is a common challenge in early-stage disease diagnosis and environmental monitoring.
Conventional PCR, while widely used, often struggles with samples that contain very small amounts of genetic material. Countable's method reportedly amplifies these signals more efficiently, reducing false negatives and enabling earlier intervention. The company has not yet disclosed specific technical details about how it achieves this sensitivity, but it has published preliminary data in peer-reviewed journals.
The $26 million injection comes at a time when the diagnostics industry is looking for more reliable and rapid testing tools. Countable Labs faces competition from other firms working on digital PCR and isothermal amplification, but its focus on improving traditional PCR sensitivity could give it an edge in markets where accuracy is critical. The company expects to launch its first commercial products within the next two years.
