The North Dakota Department of Public Instruction is launching a new survey aimed at gathering public input on the role of technology in the state's schools. The initiative seeks to collect feedback from parents, educators, and community members on potential policy shifts regarding student access to and use of digital devices.
State Superintendent Levi Bachmeier, who recently assumed leadership of the department, is spearheading the effort. He stated that the goal is to understand how technology affects learning, student well-being, and classroom dynamics. The survey covers a range of topics, including screen time limits, the use of cell phones during school hours, and the integration of educational software.
This move comes amid growing national debate over the impact of smartphones and social media on youth mental health and academic focus. Several states have already implemented stricter rules on device usage in schools. North Dakota officials want to hear directly from residents before drafting any formal recommendations or legislative proposals.
The survey is open to all residents and will remain available for several weeks. Results are expected to be compiled and shared publicly later this year, potentially guiding future state guidelines on technology in education.
