Erlanger announces new technology to treat common condition among aging men

Erlanger has introduced a new technology to address a common condition affecting aging men. The hospital system now offers the HYDROS Robotic System, which is the first AI-powered robotic device in Chattanooga designed to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH. This condition, also known as an enlarged prostate, can cause frequent urination, weak flow, and other disruptive symptoms.

The new system uses Aquablation therapy, a minimally invasive procedure that employs a water jet guided by real-time imaging to remove excess prostate tissue. Unlike traditional surgery, this approach is precise and reduces the risk of side effects such as incontinence or sexual dysfunction. By targeting only the problematic tissue, the technology aims to provide effective relief while preserving surrounding healthy structures.

Doctors at Erlanger note that untreated BPH can lead to more serious health problems, including bladder damage, kidney issues, and bladder stones. The HYDROS system helps lower these risks by offering a safer, more efficient treatment option. For many men, this means a faster recovery and a return to normal activities without the long recovery times associated with older surgical methods.

The introduction of this AI-powered tool marks a significant step forward in urological care in the region. Patients now have access to advanced technology that combines robotics and artificial intelligence to improve outcomes for a condition that affects millions of men as they age.
