Montage Technology Announces Industry-First Trial Production of CXL 3.2 MXC Chip

Montage Technology has reached a new milestone by moving its CXL 3.2 Memory eXpander Controller, or MXC, into trial production. The company says this is the first time such a chip has reached this stage in the industry. The move targets the growing need for memory expansion and resource pooling in heavy-duty computing environments like AI, cloud services, and modern data centers.

The MXC chip is built around CXL technology, which stands for Compute Express Link. This interface allows processors to share memory with accelerators and other devices more efficiently than traditional setups. With this chip, customers can put together memory systems that offer higher capacity, make better use of existing resources, and adapt more easily to changing workloads.

Montage is positioning the chip as a practical answer to the memory bottleneck that often slows down large-scale AI training and inference tasks. By allowing memory to be pooled and assigned dynamically, the MXC helps avoid over-provisioning in one server while another runs short. That flexibility is key for operators trying to cut costs without sacrificing performance.

The trial production phase means the chip is now being manufactured in limited quantities for validation and early customer testing.
