SCOTIA, N.Y. — Beginning May 1, the Scotia-Glenville Central School District will implement a new initiative aimed at improving student safety during bus transportation. The district will start issuing tickets to drivers who illegally pass stopped school buses, utilizing advanced camera technology to capture violations.
This initiative comes in response to growing concerns over the safety of children as they board and disembark from school buses. With the new camera system, the district hopes to deter reckless driving behaviors that endanger students. The cameras will be installed on the stop arms of school buses, automatically recording the license plates of vehicles that disregard the stop signals.
School officials emphasize the importance of adhering to traffic laws around school buses, highlighting that the safety of students is a top priority. The program is expected to foster a safer environment for students and raise awareness about the critical need for driver vigilance when approaching school buses.
