A new program aimed at bridging the digital divide has officially begun at the University of Arkansas at Monticello College of Technology-McGehee. The UAM-CTM Digital Literacy Program launched on January 21, established through a collaborative partnership with national nonprofit Digitunity and telecommunications provider AT&T.
The initiative's kickoff event was hosted on the McGehee campus, drawing representatives from the partnering organizations. The program is designed to equip community members with essential modern skills, focusing on fundamental computer competence, safe internet navigation, and effective use of digital tools for education, employment, and personal advancement.
This effort directly addresses the critical need for accessible technology education in rural regions. By providing structured training and resources, the program seeks to empower residents, enhance workforce readiness, and foster greater inclusion in an increasingly digital society. The college anticipates the curriculum will serve a broad demographic, from students to older adults, ensuring all participants can confidently engage with technology in their daily lives.
