UofL, UK look to shape national security technology

The NobleReach Foundation has selected the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky to participate in its new Science to Venture pilot program. The initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic research and national security applications by helping scientists and engineers turn their discoveries into viable commercial ventures.

Both universities join a select group of institutions chosen for their strong research portfolios in fields like cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and advanced materials. The program will provide faculty and students with mentorship, funding guidance, and access to a network of defense and intelligence experts. The goal is to accelerate the transition of lab breakthroughs into tools that can protect the country's digital and physical infrastructure.

Officials from both schools expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity. They noted that the partnership aligns with their existing efforts to support entrepreneurship and technology transfer. For Kentucky, the program also represents a chance to raise the state's profile in the national security sector, an area often dominated by coastal research hubs.

The NobleReach Foundation, a nonprofit focused on strengthening the nation's technology ecosystem, designed the pilot to address what it sees as a slow pipeline from university research to real-world deployment. By involving universities like UofL and UK, the foundation hopes to tap into regional talent and diversify the types of solutions available to federal agencies.

The program is set to launch later this year, with initial projects expected to focus on data security and sensor technology. Participants will work closely with industry partners to ensure their innovations meet practical defense needs.
